As I mentioned in my last blog post, the promise of cost reduction is
compelling many enterprises to move their workloads into the Cloud but many
IT leaders are reluctant to do so, for fear of compromising the security and
availability of their services. These concerns are well-founded but the
benefits of Cloud are too great to ignore. To obtain these benefits,
companies must adopt techniques that protect against the attendant risks,
without compromise.
Many people are familiar with Layer 7’s industry-leading security
functionality, so it’s no surprise that I’d recommend using our Gateway
technology to protect connections from on-premise infrastructure to
off-premise Cloud services. The flexibility of deployment options we offer
makes it possible to create a network of secure on- and off-premise endpoints
to meet the most stringent requirements. This covers securit... (more)
"Big data represents a sea change of capabilities in IT" notes Matt McLarty,
Vice President, Client Solutions at Layer 7 Technologies, in this exclusive
Q&A with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan. McLarty continued: "In
conjunction with mobile and cloud, I think Big Data will provide a
technological makeover to the typical enterprise infrastructure, drawing a
hard API border in front of core business services while blurring the line
between logic and data services."

Enterprises want to mix the best of their own data centers with private and
public cloud services without compromising security and uptime. Making
internal information assets available to work across private and public
clouds requires a management layer that can stitch together disparate
services to create a hybrid enterprise. This requires a way to abstract,
secure and manage information flows across all domains.

President of Client Solutions at Layer 7, will cover prov... (more)
Earlier this fall, Anil John put out the following Twitter challenge:
“@Vordel, @layer7, @IBM_DataPower If you support REST, implement support
for URI templates in XML Security Gateways”
Somebody brought Anil’s tweet to our attention this week, and Jay Thorne,
who leads our tactical group, put together a nice example of just how to do
this using SecureSpan Gateways.
URI templates are a simple idea to formalize variable expansion inside URI
prototypes. A receiving system can then trivially parse out substituted
components of the URI and use these as input. There’s an IETF submissio... (more)
